Good cards for Cartagena and Panalpina’s LCL Ocean Freight hub

Cartagena, Colombia’s premier port, is becoming increasingly important as a regional transportation hub. Last year, Panalpina set up the first ocean freight hub in Cartagena for Central and South American LCL (Less than Container Load) cargoes. The international freight forwarder also tops the Port of Cartagena’s import and export rankings.

Panalpina brings to the market another industry first with the Less than Container Load (LCL) Ocean Freight hub in Cartagena, Colombia, which connects services in Europe, Asia and Latin America with Central America and the Caribbean. Operated entirely by Panalpina, this new development offers customers more than 30 new LCL services, reduced transit times and greater coverage.

Panalpina Energy and Project Solutions executed another #MajorMove with two port-to-door shipments for one of Brazil’s leading ceramics makers. The move included ocean and overland transportation of an industrial mill and a hydraulic press from Genoa, Italy, to Paranaguá, one of the main gateways in southern Brazil, as well as the installation of both machines in Tijucas, Santa Catarina.

One of Panalpina’s oil and gas customers is currently engaged in a 15-year drilling program in Oman. The customer enlisted a big steel manufacturer, to supply 62 kilometers of gas pipeline to support the project. Fast track development meant the customer required longer than usual pipes. To ensure timely shipment of this irregular-shaped cargo, Panalpina’s expertise was called upon.

36 Million 20-foot containers were moved through the port of Shanghai in 2015. In the world’s biggest port, the very physical nature of international trade is apparent like nowhere else. Globally, 130 million containers are shipped across the seas year after year – of which Panalpina handled 1.6 million for its customers in 2014. Daryl Ridgway is Panalpina’s new global head of Ocean Freight.
