DSV Panalpina’s Logistics and Manufacturing facility in Sorocaba, Brazil has been awarded the Shingo “Bronze Medallion” for operational excellence. The Shingo Prize is one of the most prestigious awards for operational excellence worldwide and it is the first time ever that the award has been given to a logistics company.

There is no good word for “Zukunftsmacher” in English. “Zukunft” means future and a “Macher” is a doer, a maker. Put the two together, and you have someone who is shaping the future, the future of logistics that is: Mike Wilson. Mike, global head of Logistics and Manufacturing at Panalpina, was presented with the prestigious LEO Award by German trade publication DVZ on Friday evening in Hamburg.

Could 3D printing herald a new era of lean supply chains? Panalpina and Cardiff Business School have strengthened their partnership with the launch of a new Logistics Manufacturing Research Centre. The center will conduct leading research into the fields of distributed manufacturing, 3D printing, the circular economy and the impact of digital manufacturing on global supply chains. The new center has already secured its first research grant.
