Following last year’s UN Climate Talks in Paris and as part of a global effort to mitigate climate change, Panalpina has delivered on its promise and set science-based emissions targets for the coming years. Panalpina is now one of 32 international companies to have such targets that have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.

Panalpina and Cardiff Business School have strengthened their partnership with the launch of a new Logistics Manufacturing Research Centre. The center will conduct leading research into the fields of distributed manufacturing, 3D printing, the circular economy and the impact of digital manufacturing on global supply chains. The new center has already secured its first research grant.

Three years ago, Panalpina and Cardiff University in Wales (UK), set out to search for the ‘hidden formula’ for lean inventories. This innovative partnership has allowed Panalpina to launch D2ID, a new inventory forecasting application.The co-innovation approach has been so successful, that the research is now being expanded to include new manufacturing technologies such as 3D printing.

​Looking for one of the smallest particles – neutrinos – requires not only international cooperation but also quite a huge piece of scientific equipment. Panalpina recently helped to move one from CERN in Switzerland to Fermilab at the University of Chicago, where it arrived at the end of July 2017. It was a closely watched voyage.

Bruno is pretty upbeat these days. A few weeks ago, he reached an agreement with Belgium-based medical device company IBA. Panalpina will soon be offering comprehensive value-added warehousing and global transportation services to IBA from its hub at Brussels Airport. For this purpose, a new 2,800 m2 facility is being built. Construction is about to begin.

The thyssenkrupp blue.cruiser has taken an impressive second place in the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) Cruiser Class of the World Solar Challenge. The SolarCar team from Hochschule Bochum did an excellent job throughout the race and was the first of its class to arrive at the finish line, but the Eindhoven team took the first prize thanks to a better overall standing.

Panalpina setzt sich ambitionierte CO2-Emissionsziele bis 2025

Um dem Klimawandel auf globaler Ebene entgegenzuwirken, hat Panalpina sein Versprechen von der Pariser UN-Klimakonferenz 2015 erfüllt und sich für die kommenden Jahre Emissionsziele gesteckt, die auf wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen basieren. Das Zentrum soll Spitzenforschung in den Bereichen dezentrale Fertigung, 3D-Druck und Kreislaufwirtschaft betreiben sowie die Auswirkungen der digitalen Fertigung auf globale Lieferketten untersuchen.

Panalpina und das in den USA ansässige 3D-Druckunternehmen Shapeways haben eine strategische Partnerschaft geschlossen. Panalpina sieht die digitale Fertigung und besonders den 3D-Druck als perfekte Ergänzung ihrer Logistics Manufacturing Services, weil damit Kunden massgeschneiderte Produkte anfertigen können und die Produktion näher an die Konsumentennachfrage rückt.

Vor drei Jahren machten sich Panalpina und die Cardiff University in Wales (UK), daran, nach der „verborgenen Formel“ für den optimalen Warenbestand zu suchen. Dank der innovativen Partnerschaft konnte Panalpina das neue Programm zur Warenbestandsvorhersage namens D2ID starten. Die erfolgreiche Kooperation wird nun auf neue Fertigungstechnologien wie 3D-Druck ausgeweitet wird.
